[Technical Overview & Write Guide] OnePlus Ace 5 Pro (SM8750-AB / Snapdragon 8 Elite) UFS 4.0 Dump & Dead Boot Repair

Device & Hardware Architecture:
  • Device Model: OnePlus Ace 5 Pro (Model ID: China variant / Platform Model)
  • Platform / SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite (SM8750 / SM8750-AB / TSMC 3nm "Oryon" architecture)
  • Storage Interface: UFS 4.0 (Gear 5 High-Speed dual-lane)
  • Storage Capacities: 256GB / 512GB / 1TB
  • Storage IC Form Factor: BGA 153 UFS 4.0 (Samsung / Micron / SK Hynix)
  • Stock OS Baseline: Android 15 (ColorOS 15)
  • File Target: Qualcomm Multi-LUN Raw Sector Dump (LUN0_userarea.bin, LUN1_xbl_a.bin, LUN2_xbl_b.bin, LUN3_rpmb.bin, rawprogram0.xml, patch0.xml)
  • Application: Dead boot recovery, unbricking Qualcomm Emergency Download (EDL 9008) handshake loops, repairing wiped partition tables (GPT corruption), and UFS IC replacement via hardware programmers (EasyJTAG Plus with UFS 4.0 socket, UFI UFS Prog, MiTester, Medusa Pro II).

Critical Hardware Warnings & Security Protocols

  • Snapdragon 8 Elite SLA / Oplus RSA Cryptographic Handshake:
    • Flashing via USB EDL (9008) mode on modern OnePlus devices requires server-side authorized tokens (Oplus Ops / SLA authentication). Unauthorized raw flashing via open QFIL tools will fail with Sahara / Firehose Auth Signature Failed.
    • Direct hardware programming via UFS socket/ISP bypasses the CPU EDL authorization layer, making it the preferred method for hardware unbricking when server tokens are inaccessible.
  • RPMB Hardware Binding:
    • The Snapdragon 8 Elite platform permanently programs the Replay Protected Memory Block (RPMB) on the UFS 4.0 chip upon first boot.
    • If performing a storage IC replacement, the new UFS 4.0 chip must have an unprovisioned RPMB (counter 0x0). If using a pre-owned chip, you must swap the matched pair: SM8750 CPU + UFS 4.0 IC together from the donor board.
  • Preserve Baseband & Calibrations (EFS / NVRAM):
    • Radio frequency calibration, modem nvram, dual-IMEI parameters, and proprietary Oplus hardware calibrations are stored inside dedicated sectors on LUN 0.
    • Always perform a full raw backup of: modemst1, modemst2, fsg, fsc, persist, oplusreserve1, oplusreserve2
    • Overwriting these partitions without a device-specific backup will result in invalid IMEI, missing baseband, or permanent cellular network failure.

Step-by-Step Direct UFS / Box Flashing Instructions (EasyJTAG Plus / UFI UFS)

Step 1: Hardware Connection (Direct BGA Socket vs. High-Speed ISP)

  1. Via Direct BGA Socket (Highly Recommended for UFS 4.0):
    • Desolder the BGA 153 UFS 4.0 IC using a temperature-controlled rework station (240°C–250°C).
    • Clean remaining underfill and lead-free alloy with flux and wick.
    • Reball using leaded solder balls (183°C) or fine stencil paste.
    • Seat the chip securely into the dedicated UFS 4.0 BGA socket adapter on your programmer.
  2. Via High-Speed ISP (Extreme Precision Required):
    • Keep differential jumper wires (TX_P/N, RX_P/N, REF_CLK, RST_N, GND) under 3 cm.
    • Provide 3.3V to VCC and 1.2V to VCCQ (or power the motherboard via USB-C to ensure PMIC rail stability).

Step 2: Programmer Initialization & LUN Verification

  1. Launch EasyJTAG Plus UFS Tool or UFI UFS ToolBox.
  2. Select interface mode: UFS Direct at PWM Gear 1 (or HS-G1 if signal integrity permits).
  3. Click Check UFS / Detect:
    Plaintext
    Code:
UFS Vendor: Samsung / Micron / SK Hynix
    UFS Spec: 4.0
Boot Configuration: Boot from LUN 1 (Boot A / XBL) Enabled
    LUN 0: Capacity ~238 GB / ~476 GB / ~953 GB
LUN 1: Capacity 4096 KB (XBL Slot A)
LUN 2: Capacity 4096 KB (XBL Slot B)
LUN 3: Capacity 4096 KB (RPMB)

Step 3: Writing Dump Blocks to Storage

  1. Write Primary Boot Stages (XBL):
    • Flash LUN1_xbl_a.bin into LUN 1.
    • Flash LUN2_xbl_b.bin into LUN 2.
  2. Write Core Partition Map & Boot Blocks (LUN 0):
    • Flash the GUID Partition Table (pgpt / raw_gpt_lun0.bin or via rawprogram0.xml).
    • Write core boot partitions directly into their respective offsets: xbl_config_a, abl_a, boot_a, init_boot_a, vendor_boot_a, dtbo_a, and vbmeta_a.
    • If writing a minimal dump, flash the first 2GB–4GB of LUN0_userarea.bin to restore the second-stage bootloader (ABL) and Fastboot environment.
  3. If previously dumped from the original board, restore modemst1, modemst2, fsg, fsc, and persist.
  4. Check the write log to confirm 0 ECC transmission timeouts or write failures.

Step 4: Reassembly & Fastboot / Stock Recovery

  1. Solder the reballed UFS chip back onto the PCB (or disconnect all ISP jumpers).
  2. Reassemble the motherboard into the chassis, connect the battery, and hold Volume Down + Power.
  3. The device will boot into the Fastboot Mode interface (OnePlus Bootloader).
  4. Connect the phone to your PC via a USB-C data cable.
  5. Extract the full official ColorOS 15 Fastboot stock firmware for the Ace 5 Pro and execute:
    Bash
    Code:
    fastboot devices
    flash_all.bat
  6. The script will write dynamic system partitions (super), flash regional components, format user data, and reboot the device into the setup wizard.
