Apple's iPhone 18 generation has arrived — but not exactly as everyone expected.
Apple has taken a different approach with its 2026 iPhone lineup. Instead of launching every model at the same time, the company introduced the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the new foldable iPhone Duo, while the standard iPhone 18 has not yet received an official launch date.
So, what is new? How much does the iPhone 18 cost? Which model is the best? And is the new generation actually worth upgrading to?
Let's break it all down.
The 2026 generation currently includes:
iPhone 18 Pro
iPhone 18 Pro Max
iPhone Duo — Apple's first foldable iPhone
iPhone 18 — not officially launched yet
iPhone 18 Air / iPhone 18e — reportedly planned for a later release, but not officially confirmed
The biggest surprise is the absence of the standard iPhone 18 from Apple's September launch. Reports indicate that Apple may introduce the regular iPhone 18 and additional lower-priced models during 2027.
Here are the currently announced U.S. starting prices:
Model Starting Price Status
iPhone 18 TBA Not launched
iPhone 18 Pro $1,199 Official
iPhone 18 Pro Max $1,299 Official
iPhone Duo $1,999 Official
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are approximately $100 more expensive than their previous-generation equivalents.
The iPhone Duo starts at an eye-catching $1,999, making it Apple's most expensive iPhone.
Important: Prices in countries such as Turkey can be considerably higher because of taxes, currency exchange rates and local pricing. U.S. launch prices should therefore not be treated as Turkish retail prices.
The iPhone 18 Pro is Apple's new premium flagship for 2026.
Display
6.3-inch OLED display
Super Retina XDR
ProMotion
High refresh rate
Improved brightness and efficiency
Apple has kept the 6.3-inch Pro form factor while focusing heavily on performance, battery life and camera technology.
Processor
The iPhone 18 Pro is powered by Apple's new A20 Pro chip.
The chip is designed around improved AI performance, efficiency and thermal management. Apple is also using a new vapor-chamber cooling system to help maintain performance during demanding workloads.
RAM
The new Pro models reportedly feature 12GB of RAM, helping with demanding applications, multitasking and Apple's expanding AI features.
One of the biggest upgrades is the camera system.
The iPhone 18 Pro introduces a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture.
This is particularly interesting because variable aperture gives the camera more control over:
Low-light photography
Depth of field
Portrait photography
Exposure
Creative photography
Apple is clearly trying to make the iPhone more flexible for serious photography and video users.
The Pro models also receive new camera controls and AI-powered image features.
Battery life is another major focus of the iPhone 18 generation.
Apple says the new generation delivers its longest iPhone battery life, while the Pro Max offers the biggest endurance in the lineup.
The Pro Max can reportedly reach around 45 hours of video playback, depending on the testing configuration.
Charging has also been improved, with up to 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes using a 60W charger under supported conditions.
If you want the biggest and most powerful traditional iPhone, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is the model to watch.

Starting price: $1,299
The main difference between the Pro and Pro Max is size and battery endurance rather than a completely different performance platform.
The most unexpected device of Apple's 2026 event isn't actually called the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
It is the iPhone Duo.
Apple has finally entered the foldable smartphone market.
The Duo features:
5.4-inch outer display
7.6-inch internal foldable display
A20 Pro chip
Advanced cooling
Multitasking
Apple Pencil support
Up to 2TB storage
Large battery
Foldable design
The device starts at $1,999.
This could be Apple's biggest hardware change to the iPhone family in years.
The biggest advantage isn't simply the folding screen.
The 7.6-inch internal display gives users a much larger workspace for:
Multitasking
Video
Gaming
Productivity
Reading
Photo editing
Apple Pencil applications
Apple is essentially trying to combine the portability of an iPhone with some of the functionality normally associated with a small tablet.
Artificial intelligence is another major part of Apple's 2026 strategy.
The new iPhones are designed around Apple's latest AI capabilities, including improvements to Siri and on-device intelligence.
Apple continues to emphasize privacy, with sensitive processing designed to remain on the device when possible and cloud-based processing handled through Apple's privacy-focused infrastructure.
For users who plan to keep their phone for several years, this could become one of the most important advantages of the new generation.
The iPhone 18 Pro generation also brings modern connectivity standards, including:
USB-C
Wi-Fi 7
Bluetooth 6
MagSafe
Advanced cellular connectivity
For users with compatible routers, accessories and networks, Wi-Fi 7 could make the new iPhone considerably more future-proof.
Apple has introduced several finishes for the new Pro generation, including:
Black
Silver
Glacier
Burgundy
The return of a classic black Pro option is particularly notable for users who prefer a more understated design.
Apple has confirmed the following schedule:
Pre-orders: September 12, 2026
Retail availability: September 18, 2026
The iPhone Duo arrives later, with availability reported for October.
The standard iPhone 18 does not currently have a confirmed launch date.
This is probably the biggest question surrounding the 2026 lineup.
Normally, Apple launches its standard iPhone alongside the Pro models.
This year, Apple didn't.
Current reports suggest that Apple could introduce the standard iPhone 18 during a separate 2027 launch alongside other models such as a new iPhone Air and iPhone 18e.
That means consumers looking for a more affordable iPhone 18 may have to wait.

Choose iPhone 18 Pro if:
You want flagship performance without carrying the biggest phone.
It offers the A20 Pro chip, advanced cameras, a 6.3-inch display and excellent battery life while remaining relatively compact.
Choose iPhone 18 Pro Max if:
Battery life and screen size matter more than portability.
For gaming, video editing, photography and media consumption, the Pro Max is the obvious traditional flagship choice.
Choose iPhone Duo if:
You want something completely different.
The Duo is aimed at people who want a large screen, multitasking and foldable functionality in a smartphone-sized device.
However, the $1,999 starting price means it is definitely not the value option.
Wait for the standard iPhone 18 if:
You don't need a premium Pro device and want a more affordable entry point into the 18 generation.
The problem is that Apple has not yet confirmed exactly when that model will arrive.
The iPhone 18 generation is one of Apple's most unusual iPhone launches in years.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max focus on performance, AI, cameras, battery life and professional features, while the iPhone Duo represents Apple's first serious attempt to redefine what an iPhone can physically be.
The biggest story, however, may be what Apple didn't launch.
There is still no standard iPhone 18.
For consumers, that creates a very different buying decision in 2026: go premium with the iPhone 18 Pro, go huge with the Pro Max, take the futuristic route with the $1,999 Duo — or simply wait for the next phase of the iPhone 18 family.
One thing is clear: Apple's iPhone strategy has changed.
And 2027 could be just as interesting as 2026.
