[Guide] How to Install TWRP Recovery on Samsung Galaxy J5 2015 LTE China Mobile (SM-J5008 / j5ltezm)

Device & Technical Specifications:

  • Device Model: Samsung Galaxy J5 (2015) China Mobile CMCC (SM-J5008 / j5ltezm)
  • Chipset / Platform: Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916 - 64-bit Quad-Core ARM Cortex-A53)
  • Storage Interface: eMMC 4.5
  • Stock OS: Android 5.1.1 Lollipop / Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow
  • Target Recovery: TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP) Custom Recovery
  • Status: 100% Tested & Verified Working

Prerequisites & Critical Warnings

  • C-Lock / CROM Service Unlock: The China Mobile variant (SM-J5008) contains Samsung's regional CROM bootloader restriction. You must run the Samsung CROM Service unlock utility before flashing; otherwise, Odin will reject the binary with CUSTOM BINARY BLOCKED BY C-LOCK or SECURE CHECK FAIL: RECOVERY.
  • Knox Warranty Void: Flashing custom binaries permanently trips the hardware eFuse (0x1), disabling hardware-backed security features.
  • FRP & OEM Lock: Ensure OEM Unlocking is enabled and remove any Google/Samsung accounts prior to flashing to avoid Custom Binary Blocked by FRP Lock.
  • Data Backup: Back up important personal files, contacts, and photos before flashing.
  • Required Files & Tools:
    • Odin3 (v3.10.7, v3.12.3, or v3.13.1 recommended).
    • Official Samsung Mobile USB Drivers installed on PC.
    • Verified twrp-j5ltezm-j5008.tar file.
    • Reliable Micro-USB data cable connected directly to a rear PC motherboard USB port.
    • CROM Service APK (if your bootloader status is not yet unlocked).
    • Magisk or SuperSU ZIP file to root and prevent the stock kernel from restoring the stock recovery image on boot.

Step-by-Step Installation Instructions (Nasıl Yüklenir?)

Step 1: Unlock Bootloader via CROM Service

  1. Go to Settings > About Device > Software Info and tap Build Number 7 times continuously to enable Developer Options.
  2. Return to Settings > Developer Options and toggle both OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging to ON.
  3. Install and run the Samsung CROM Service APK on the phone.
  4. Accept the disclaimer and confirm the prompt to unlock the CROM security lock.
  5. The device bootloader status will change to unlocked, allowing custom partition flashing.

Step 2: Boot into Samsung Download Mode

  1. Power off the phone completely.
  2. Press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power buttons simultaneously until the teal warning screen appears.
  3. Verify that the screen lists CROM TARGET: Unlock.

    • Uncheck Auto Reboot (Crucial: Prevents stock Android from rebooting normally and replacing TWRP with the stock 3e recovery).
  5. Click Start and wait for Odin to display the green PASS! status.

Step 4: First Boot into TWRP Recovery

  1. Disconnect the Micro-USB cable.

    • Swipe to allow system modifications.
    • If running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with forced encryption, navigate to Wipe > Format Data, type yes, and confirm.
    • Go to Install and flash Magisk.zip or SuperSU.zip to disable stock recovery auto-restoration and gain persistent root access.
  7. Select Reboot > System.
