[Guide] How to Install TWRP Recovery on Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 LTE China Mobile (SM-J5108 / j5xnltezm)

Device & Technical Specifications:

  • Device Model: Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) China Mobile CMCC (SM-J5108 / j5xnltezm)
  • Chipset / Platform: Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916 - 64-bit Quad-Core ARM Cortex-A53)
  • Storage Interface: eMMC 5.1
  • Stock OS: Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow / Android 7.1.1 Nougat
  • Target Recovery: TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP) Custom Recovery
  • Status: 100% Tested & Verified Working

Prerequisites & Critical Warnings

  • C-Type / China Variant Unlock (CROM Service): Chinese carrier variants (such as China Mobile SM-J5108) enforce an additional hardware bootloader lock layer via Samsung's CROM service. You must unlock CROM before Odin can flash custom binaries, otherwise Odin will halt with SECURE CHECK FAIL: RECOVERY or CUSTOM BINARY BLOCKED BY C-LOCK.
  • Knox Warranty Void: Flashing custom binaries permanently trips the hardware eFuse (0x1), disabling hardware-backed security features.
  • FRP & OEM Lock: Keep OEM Unlocking toggled ON in Developer Options to avoid triggering Custom Binary Blocked by FRP Lock.
  • Data Backup: Back up important personal files, contacts, and photos before flashing.
  • Required Files & Tools:
    • Odin3 (v3.10.7, v3.12.3, or v3.13.1 recommended).
    • Official Samsung Mobile USB Drivers installed on PC.
    • Verified twrp-j5xnltezm-j5108.tar file.
    • Reliable Micro-USB data cable connected directly to a rear PC motherboard USB port.
    • CROM Service APK (if your device's bootloader is still CROM-locked).
    • Magisk or SuperSU ZIP file to root and prevent the stock Android system from restoring stock recovery on boot.

Step-by-Step Installation Instructions (Nasıl Yüklenir?)

Step 1: Unlock Bootloader & Bypass C-Lock (CROM Service)

  1. Go to Settings > About Device > Software Info and tap Build Number 7 times to enable Developer Options.

  3. Install and launch the CROM Service APK (Samsung CROM app).
  4. Follow the on-screen prompt and accept the terms to unlock the device's CROM bootloader lock.
  5. Once CROM displays "Unlocked", your device is permitted to accept unsigned binaries in Download Mode.

  2. Press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power buttons simultaneously until the teal warning screen appears.

    • Swipe to allow system modifications.
    • If running Android 7.1.1 Nougat with forced encryption, navigate to Wipe > Format Data, type yes, and confirm.
    • Go to Install and flash Magisk.zip or SuperSU.zip to permanently disable stock recovery auto-restoration and gain root access.
  7. Select Reboot > System.
